Opal Rewards
Opal is Kerne's pre TGE loyalty and rewards program. It rewards the earliest participants with a meaningful claim on the community $KERNE allocation at TGE. The earlier you participate and the more you contribute, the larger your share.
How Opal Fragments Work
Opal Fragments accrue every hour to every wallet that holds kUSD on Base, at a base rate of 100 Fragments per kUSD per hour, multiplied by a time-decaying Genesis deposit multiplier. At TGE the fixed 50,000,000 KERNE community allocation (5% of total supply) is distributed in two tranches. Fragments divide the 5,000,000 KERNE community tranche: your share of ELIGIBLE Fragments is your share of that tranche. Eligible excludes Kerne's own wallets: since August 4, 2026 the founder wallet and the protocol bot accrue Fragments and keep their leaderboard rank but convert none of them, so they are not in that denominator. The remaining 45,000,000 KERNE is the scale tranche, which Fragments do not divide at all: it goes pro-rata by qualifying dollar-hours, meaning the part of a position above $100,000 for each hour it is held, with no multiplier of any kind, and if no position ever qualifies it is not allocated rather than shared out. Because Fragments accrue per hour held, standing in the community tranche is inherently time-weighted: consistent, long-term holding is rewarded more than last minute deposits of the same size.
No fixed Fragment to KERNE conversion rate is promised in advance. The conversion is purely proportional and depends on total participation.
Earning Opal Fragments
- Mint and hold kUSD (primary): Every wallet holding kUSD accrues 100 Fragments per kUSD per hour, read from actual on-chain balances. No claiming step, no minimum; balances under 1 kUSD accrue fractionally.
- Genesis deposit multiplier: Set by when your current continuous hold started, not by deposit size. Season 1 schedule: 2.0x (Through Jun 15 UTC), 1.75x (Jun 16 to Jun 22), 1.5x (Jun 23 to Jun 29), 1.25x (Jun 30 to Jul 6), 1.0x (Jul 7 to snapshot). Topping up keeps your cohort; a full exit to zero forfeits it, and a later refill is re-tiered at the then-current week. Fragments already earned are permanent.
- Staking and liquidity: kUSD staked into skUSD or provided as kUSD/USDC liquidity on Aerodrome keeps accruing at the same base rate on its kUSD-equivalent value, with manipulation-resistant on-chain valuation. Direct holdings and positions are disjoint, so nothing is double counted.
- Referrals: Generate a unique referral link from the Opal dashboard. When a referred user holds kUSD, you earn a bonus equal to 10% of their base Fragment accrual (before multipliers), credited automatically. Referral relationships are permanent (first referrer wins). The referral system is single level with a maximum of 10 referrals per address.
TGE Conversion
Genesis Extended ends at a published, date-certain snapshot: August 19, 2026 at 19:59 UTC. Your Fragment total as at that instant is what the window counts, whether or not you remain deposited afterward, and it is final. Accrual for this window stops at the snapshot: no fragments are credited for any period after that instant, so a displayed balance stops moving once the snapshot has passed. Season 1 standings were banked at the July 10, 2026 snapshot and are unchanged. Your share of the 5,000,000 KERNE community tranche is your Fragments divided by ELIGIBLE Fragments, which since August 4, 2026 excludes Kerne's own founder wallet and protocol bot: they keep accruing and keep their rank, but convert nothing. Since August 6, 2026 that tranche is 5,000,000 KERNE rather than the whole 50,000,000 KERNE, because the allocation was split and the other 45,000,000 KERNE goes by dollar-hours above $100,000 instead. That share becomes $KERNE only at a token generation event, and no token generation event is scheduled or guaranteed: the pool is a published policy commitment over a treasury balance rather than an escrowed on chain allocation, and no contract exists today that converts Fragments into KERNE, so if no distribution ever happens Fragments convert to nothing. The full position, including the current concentration of Fragments, is published at /security/kerne-token-disclosure.
Rates and multipliers are Season 1 program parameters, configured in the accrual engine and published in the app and at kerne.fi/opal. Future seasons can run different parameters; Fragments already credited are permanent.
Anti Gaming Rules
- Fragments are calculated on actual on‑chain kUSD balances and position values, read directly from the chain
- The continuous-hold clock resets on a full exit to zero, so drain-and-refill cannot replay an empty window or keep an early cohort multiplier
- Hourly accrual plus the weekly-decaying Genesis multiplier make a last-minute deposit strictly worse than an early one OF THE SAME SIZE, which is why the snapshot date (August 19, 2026) can be published in advance. Time-weighting bounds hours, not size, so a large late deposit can still outweigh a small early one in the community tranche; the scale tranche is measured in dollar-hours precisely so that late size wins proportionally less of it
- Quest grants require a position of at least 100 kUSD and are capped at 250,000 Fragments each, so a dust wallet cannot earn one, and no quest, boost or multiplier can touch the scale tranche
- Each accrual period is processed exactly once via idempotent crediting, preventing double counting on system restarts
- Founder, team, and protocol wallets are labeled on the public leaderboard, never disguised
